President's Message:

Hello Wisconsin Psychs,

For most of the years that I have worked in my current building, I have helped with our middle school play production.  It’s always a lot of fun to see what they can put together and is a good way to get to know students and families outside of my main role.  However, it also gives me some really great practice on my “elevator pitch” of what a school psychologist is every time I introduce myself!

The answer to the question of “what is a school psychologist?” can be wide and varied.  Or, as in our official WSPA shirt this year, it can be very simple.  (If you haven’t ordered yours yet, it just says “It Depends”).  As our job can be many things, we hope that WSPA can support you with all of them.

Last year, WSPA proposed and the voting approved a new board structure that is designed to increase what we can do for you from our board of volunteers.  We hope we can get even more voice on the board by having many options of volunteering, from a one-time task at a convention to a monthly support on a committee.  If you’ve ever been interested or even curious about the board, we hope you’ll try it out!  Email me at president@wspaonline.net for more information.

We had an amazing fall convention with Dr. Ross Greene and professionals from all around Wisconsin.  This spring, we’re going to try something new that I’m very excited about by combining Job Fair with our spring convention in the Madison area.  I hope to see many of you there!  Even better, I’d love if you came to present and share the things that you’re doing with your colleagues.  One of the best parts of a state convention is the targeted learning of your neighbors around the state.

Virtual sessions are also coming soon!  Be sure to follow us on social media (Facebook or Instagram) and check the website for details and new announcements regularly.

What more do you need from your association?  What would you like to see new or different?  Reach out to me and let me know.  WSPA can’t wait to support you throughout the year in different ways, including all the ways you answer the eternal question…”but what is a school psychologist?”

In partnership,

Emily Prissel
