Working with Depressed and Anxious Teens: Evidence-Based Approaches

In this workshop we will review Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) programs developed for teens,
and will discuss how they can be employed in practice.
This is a workshop that will provide practical, evidence-based strategies for working with some of the most challenging adolescents.

Objectives
Participants will develop an understanding of:
- Recent research on cognitive, social, and biological risk factors for depression and anxiety
- Diagnosis and assessment of depression and anxiety among youth
- Alternative cognitive-behavioral models and how they can guide case formulation
- The results of recent outcome studies of CBT and how they inform treatment planning
- “Modular CBT” techniques and strategies
- Strategies for fostering a cooperative relationship with challenging, unmotivated teens and for encouraging treatment participation
- Findings from the TADS project and their clinical implications
One graduate credit is available to participants.
